Restorative Dentistry
Woman looking at her smile in a mirror at Star City Dental in Lincoln, NECavities can lead to tooth decay, which can damage your tooth's structure resulting in tooth loss. Sometimes accidents also cause irreparable damage to the tooth. If you have damaged or decaying teeth, restorative dentistry is the ideal solution to restore your jaw to full functionality, improve aesthetic appearance and replace missing teeth.
We at Star City Dental understand how missing teeth can impact one's self-confidence, cause speech problems and ruin dental and oral health. We offer a wide range of restorative dentistry procedures to replace missing teeth, restore dental health and enhance the beauty of your smile.

What is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is the term given to multiple procedures that dentists use to restore your dental structure to optimal functionality. If you have a missing or chipped tooth, your dentist will likely employ restorative dentistry practices to replace missing teeth.
Some of the most commonly used procedures are:
•  Dental Fillings – If you have tooth decay, your dentist will remove the cavities from your teeth and fill in the cavity using filling material. Silver amalgam fillings are the most common types of fillings, but more and more people are shifting to natural-looking materials such as dental resins.
•  Dental Implants – If tooth damage becomes too severe and warrants a tooth extraction, your dentist will likely suggest you opt for a dental implant to preserve the integrity of the dental structure. The implant, a titanium screw, is embedded in the jaw bone, and an abutment is placed over it. A crown then goes over the abutment completing the procedure. Dental implants are an invasive procedure and require substantial recovery and multiple visits to the dentist over a span of six months to one year.
•  Dental Crowns – A dental crown is a less invasive restorative dental procedure. It is a tooth-shaped cap that goes over a damaged or chipped tooth, restoring functionality and preventing it from further damage.
•  Dental Bridges – A dental bridge is an artificial tooth that goes over damaged or missing teeth. It is supported by the adjacent teeth and is an ideal non-invasive procedure for filling up gaps and replacing missing teeth.
•  Root Canal – If decay and infection spread to the teeth' pulp and into the roots, a dentist will perform the root canal procedure to clean the teeth canal and treat the pulp to clear the infection. If the infection spreads to the bone or the tooth becomes loose, the dentist may have to extract your tooth. A root canal is usually the last possible treatment to save the tooth before extraction becomes inevitable.
•  Inlays and Onlays – In some cases, where the damage caused by tooth decay isn't substantial enough to warrant other invasive and extensive procedures but has left a significant gap in the tooth, a dentist may opt for Inlays and Onlays.
