With increased calls for a more nutritious diet, consumption of fruit juices has increased the world over. Since there's an aversion to eating fruit in their natural stage, especially among children, juices are seen as more effective. They are also seen as embodying all the benefits of fruits without any of the inconvenience.

It may surprise people, especially parents, to learn, that fruits and fruit juices aren't exactly similar. One is in its natural state while the other is packaged and sweetened to facilitate easy consumption. Although they carry necessary vitamins and hold nutritional value, fruit juices also come with their disadvantages. Unlike fruits, fruit juices contain sugar, which, as our dentists repeatedly tell our patients, is unhealthy for teeth. The bacteria in your mouth feed on the sugar, leading to plaque formation. Consumption of sugar, coupled with irregular cleaning, can also result in gum diseases that weaken the structure of teeth. Fruit juice also destroys the enamel of your teeth, that eventually can result in weaker teeth.
Avoiding Teeth Problems Associated with Fruit Juice
The easiest way to avoid problems associated with fruit juice is to consume fruits in their solid-state. If that's impractical, since it demands a change in the habit of your children, you could dilute the contents of fruit juice with water. As a thumb rule, you should also check the ingredient list to understand the quantity of added sugar in the juice.

Regular consumption of fruit juices and a lack of dental hygiene can lead to serious dental issues.
